Co-occuring and Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis is sometime also referred to as co-occurring disorders or comorbidity. It is the fact that two conditions, such as a specific mental health disorder and a substance use disorder, often co-exist together. What this means is that in many people with addictions, there is an underlying mental health issue as well. Both of these disorders require its own treatment plan, however, one is often overlooked or thought of as a symptom of the other. At VCAT TRC we evaluate and determine the source of each disorder with the proper treatment plan for treatment.
